Pri Sch Gathering!

Took some time off my books today to attend a pri sch class gathering. Was rather apprehensive at first, coz I probably can't recognise half the people in my pri sch class. But I went anyway. After all, it was held just a short distance from my house.
The people came in "drips and drapes". At 7pm, there were only 5 of us. At 745pm, there were 15 people, including 2 of my favorite pri sch teachers. What a crowd! It was amazing seeing people who hadn't changed a bit, and others who had undergone some dramatic transformation. Potential lawyers, doctors, accountants, dentists among us. Yet I can still remember the days when seeing a certain teacher struck fear into my heart! That doesn't apply now of course, and all I have now are fond memories and gratitude.
It was wonderful to be able to see my pri sch teachers again. (:

Just returned from S's party! It was at a rather hard to find location, but I was glad I found it. The food, especially the desserts, was so good that I think I over-ate. Otherwise I thought I found the location rather peaceful, a rather refreshing place for a party really. Wouldn't mind visiting the place another day, too bad today it was a bit too dark to do so.
It was another eventful week at NUH. The upper GI team was really hospitable, and I thought I really learnt a lot from them this week. For this week we spent quite a bit of time trying to clerk patients. Sometimes its a bit trying, both for the patients and for us. If I were a patient and every single free moment the dreaded medical student pops up and starts asking the same questions, I'd be annoyed too.
Maybe they could change the system. Stagger the days we are in the wards or sth. Haha. but thats wishful thinking that will never go anywhere.
Anyway, I survive by clerking 1-2 patients a day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I hope my learning experience has been enhanced by attending clinics and the occasional OTs, and pray hard that the little bits of information I pick up here and there might come in useful one day. (for my eopt! and beyond!)
I wish I had super memory like my cg mate J S who is nickneamed Mr Bailey and Love. But I don't have super memory. I'd be happy if I could be nicknamed Mr Andre Tan.

A visit to the vet

It's been a busy week.. so I haven't had time to update this blog. Anyway, a throwback to last saturday..
Gordon is an 8 year old golden retriever who presented to the veterinarian with reddening, itchiness, and loss of a patch of fur (alopecia?) above his left ear and on his neck, in the midline. His owners (that includes me) has noticed the patches getting bigger as well as the fact that he continually scratches them with his left hindleg.
A skin scraping microscopy was negative for bugs, but otoscopy found "fungal and bacterial" infection of his left middle ear. It was explained that the infection could have been the cause of his itch.
It was thought that the lack of ear cleaning could have resulted in the infection. :S
After being put on antibiotics for 5 days, his itch is still persisting, although an "Elizabethian" collar is preventing him from scratching his head. Thankfully, the hair is growing back on his head, slowly but surely. I think he is in distress because all the dogs and humans in the neighbourhood are laughing at him.
He is due for a review next saturday. Hopefully he gets better then. Meanwhile he looks rather silly in his Elizabethian collar.

sleeepy.

10 July 2009

I had set the alarm at 5:59 instead of 5:55, for that little extra bit of shut-eye. But apparently it didn't work, coz when I woke up this morning I had to run even more to try to catch the 6:30 bus.
4 minutes of extra sleep apparently gives me plenty of good exercise.
At 7:10, I reached buona vista, tired and thirsty and sleepy. But 95 was no where in sight. Then 92 arrived, and I was feeling brave. So I stepped into the bus, into a journey of no return.
I crossed busy roads, traipsed through a construction site and stumbled onto secret passage leading to Kent Ridge Wing. Via an unknown mechanism, I found myself lost deep within the recesses of the faculty of dentistry.
Fortunately, faith and determination gave me directions.
Unfortunately, I was late. But I discovered a new route into the hospital.
Happy belated birthday J Chan.

3M bbq + yinghui's birthday

I was in a bit of a dilemma as to whether to go for the bbq or the birthday party. So I went for the bbq at clementi first, (going a bit earlier to maximise my time there), before heading down for the party around 8.
And I didn't regret doing so! Despite a bit of rain early on that only slightly dampened our spirits, the bbq was quite a lot of fun. Nth to worry about, just good food and familiar faces. It would have been nice if I could stay later... but well, I can't have my cake and eat it too.
Kudos to wenyan for organising, yi han for providing encouragement and the place, daniel and an yi for coooking, and everyone else for making it a great success! As for me, I was content just eating and eating.. stuffing myself with charred food.
The food was exceptionally well prepared and cooked, and there seemed quite a lot of it.. so I stayed behind for 15mins more to help finish as much as I can.. ehem...
BBQ=unhealthy but fun!!

Still, I managed to reach le cafe at 850pm to catch ppl singing songs and join in for a couple of them. Really enjoyed myself singing, but it must have been torurous for those listening, i know. Kudos again to yinghui and her family who must have put in a lot of effort to make the party a success! Sin yong for the magic tricks. CR for his enthusiasm in singing. Momo for his falsetto.

I felt quite high as I left the party. At the expense of other ppl's ears, of course.
Happy birthday yinghui. And Ray.
